What is Healthy?

Let me hop on the bandwagon and talk about the latest rage: bikini bridge, part of #thinspiration and an add-on to the thigh gap. If you don’t know what any of these things are, then you’re better off for it. In my quest to get healthy, I have had many bumps, and one of the bumps (or rather hills) that I try to work through is the sometimes thin line between being healthy losing weight and doing scary stuff to lose weight.

Let’s get personal. A lot of the girls at my college had a problem with eating healthily and balancing the right amount of exercise, including several of my very close friends (which really strained our friendships to the point that now we are more like acquaintances unfortunately). What was going on around me really affected me. I was and still am overweight. My BMI tells you that, my body fat tells you that, pictures of me tell you that. But I struggled to show my friends that you can eat unhealthy food and be happy and that exercise doesn’t have to dictate your life.

In my opinion I failed. I failed because it got to the point that it affected me and I gained 20 pounds and became very unhappy with myself. I still don’t quite understand eating disorders and how they affect individuals, which is part of why I lost several friends like I did. I know that at least one of them is in a much better place now.

So when I talk on this blog, I am going to try to be candid with you and I want you to be candid with me too. I am going to share my weight loss story. I workout twice a day, but for what I am trying to accomplish and for my body, it isn’t too much. And when it is, then I don’t. I am really REALLY trying to cut back on sweets because they aren’t the right fuel for my body and they certainly aren’t helping me get the fit body I want.

So, back to the original purpose. The bikini bridge. Some girls may have this just as part of their body type, but trying to achieve this or the thigh gap really isn’t for everyone. Instead, I wish that girls would strive to be fit, to be healthy, fueling their bodies appropriately and exercising in a healthy way.

So no more of this:
